Want to know the benefits and effects of each strain before you buy them? We certainly would! We offer a variety of strains, each with different strengths and characteristics to make each flower, and its medicinal purpose, unique.

Strains come in different flavors, aromas, and levels of potency. Botanically, weed strains are the ancestors of specific cannabis plants. The lineage of a marijuana strain lends insight into the strain’s unique effects and benefits. Experts currently recognize 700-800 different strains around the world, and there is no limit to how many cannabis strains can evolve as cultivators cross breed different plants to produce an array of choices for us.

To simplify this, we classify three different strains of marijuana known as Sativas, Indicas, or Hybrids. It is important to note, that a strain’s effects largely depends on the person consuming the cannabis, and their weight, overall health, and level of experience all factors into how you respond to a particular strain.

SATIVA

Sativa strains contain high levels of psychoactive tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and are best known for their energizing effects. This plant originally grew in warm, humid climates, growing long and lanky with tall, narrow leaves, so they can dry out and not absorb so much humidity. Their warm climate also means they can take a long time to grow and flower, or produce buds, because the weather won’t get cold and rainy at the end of the growing season. This is also why Sativas tend to cost a bit more because most cultivators want quicker growing crops, and to grow sativas properly, it takes lots of patience. The Sativa plant produce fruity, floral, and spicy aromas and flavors depending on the terpenes present. We love this flower’s invigorating, uplifting, and energizing nature. It often sparks creativity, boosts focus and improves the mood. This bud is great for stress, depression, and anxiety, although it is best characterized as more of a ‘head high’ than a ‘body high’. Because of its stimulating impact, you can use sativa in the daytime.

INDICAS

Indica strains sometimes contain less THC than Sativa strains and higher amounts of cannabidiol (CBD). Typically said to be more relaxing and sedative, Indicas originally grew in cold, northern climates. They grew short and stocky with brushy green and chunky leaves because of their environment. Their growing life cycle is shorter so they can get harvested before the cold and wet of fall and winter set in. Since they grow faster than Sativas, there are generally more Indicas on the market. The calming effects of this flower makes it popular for people struggling with pain, sleeplessness, anxiety, nausea, stress and gives you more of a ‘body buzz’ where you will want to sit or lay down and rest. Because of its deep relaxation effects, indica is better consumed in the evenings.

HYBRIDS

Hybrid strains are bred from both indica and sativa descended plants. Due to the long history of crossbreeding cannabis, strains that have pure indica or pure sativa lineages are rare. Most strains referred to as “indica” or “sativa” are, in fact, hybrids with genetics inherited from both types and their effects pull from both indica and sativa strains. Common effects include feeling happy, euphoric, uplifted and relaxed — it all depends on which hybrid you consume and what effects its parent plant produces. Hybrids can be higher in THC or CBD, depending on their chemotype. While Sativa and indica strains may produce more reliable effects, the effects of hybrid strains are often variable. We love hybrids because cultivators usually create these flowers to showcase the best of both worlds with it’s impact on both the body and the mind.

More and more, the cannabis industry is moving away from the term “strains” and using chemovars (chemical varieties) instead, since the word “strain” is often used to refer to bacteria and viruses. Overall, these terms are just indicators of the effects you’ll experience. Our staff is always happy to take the time to explain each flower’s nuances and breed to make sure you are aligned with the proper medicinal flower.
